Suan Lahu is a real organic coffee farm run by a Lahu highland family since 2009 — not a staged "cultural village." When you visit, you're stepping into the daily rhythm of the people who actually grow, pick, and roast your cup.
Every visit supports the household directly: farming income, cultural preservation, and a pesticide-free way of life that's becoming rare in the region.

What actually happens, hour by hour.
No rushed itinerary. One group, one set of hosts, a full day of hands-on farm and village life. Coffee follows its own calendar, so your host will guide you through whichever stage it's at when you visit — picking, drying or roasting — meaning no two visits look quite the same.

Met by your hosts from the local highland village. Settle in, relax, and get orientated with a cup of Suan Lahu coffee.
Organic farm tour & hands-on coffee work
Walk the forest garden and see how coffee, tea, cocoa and seasonal fruit are grown side by side. Depending on the season, you'll join the picking (Nov–Feb), sorting, grading, or drying of that year's harvest.
Lahu culture & village hike
A home-cooked vegetarian Lahu lunch, then a hike to the highland village and its traditional dancing ground.
Roasting, bamboo craft & forest trails
Back at the farm: try your hand at coffee roasting (when the harvest is at that stage), bamboo craft, or a walk across the property's 82 rai of highland forest, closing with fruit and coffee before a 17:00 departure.
Stay for the night (optional)
Simple farmhouse room, hot water, a balcony over the valley. Dinner and breakfast prepared by your hosts, and time to just watch the farm wake up.

What people say after a day at the farm.
Booked just a day ahead for the half-day visit, and the team worked around her schedule without any trouble. Her host answered every question along the way, starting the morning with coffee brewed from his own beans. The tour covers far more than coffee — fruit, cacao, cinnamon and even farm animals — with plenty of walking up and down the hillside and through the village. Lunch was a home-cooked spread of eggs, rice, vegetables and fruit. As she put it: "It is so much more than a coffee farm."
A self-described coffee fan, he called the visit a rare chance to see the entire process behind a daily cup — and to learn about far more than just coffee along the way. His host, Lo-Ue, was — in his words — "such a friendly, knowledgeable, and hospitable host." The volunteers made him feel right at home too. When his scooter wouldn't start for the ride back, two and a half hours from Chiang Mai, Lo-Ue arranged for friends nearby to help jump-start it. He now calls it an unforgettable day, and recommends visiting 100%.
Joined the half-day program and was welcomed by Lo-Ue, described as "a friendly coffee farmer from Lahu village." The day started with coffee from the farm's own roast and a local sweet sticky rice dumpling, before heading out to hand-pick, process and roast the beans, then hike up the hill to learn more about the farming. Lunch was a handful of simple vegetarian dishes cooked by Lo-Ue's wife, served with rice.

Suan Lahu sits roughly 80km northeast of Chiang Mai, in the Lahu village of Doi Mod, on the border of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Lampang provinces.
