Suan Lahu is an organic single estate, co-owned and operated by indigenous highland farmers from northern Thailand. Our Highland Arabica coffee is cultivated in Chiang Rai province.
We offer internship positions to people with a serious interest in experiencing and learning about organic farming in the sub-tropical highlands of northern Thailand. Join us in support of organic coffee, fruit, and tea cultivation!
“Take things serious which we in Western cultures forgot to care about.”
German intern, Julia, came to join our farm team for four weeks and ended up staying for two months…
We recommend a commitment of one month or more in order to ensure a worthwhile experience for both your Lahu hosts and yourself. In peak seasons we also accept support for a minimum of two weeks. For shorter visits, please check out our Visiting Program. Find out more at the
Suan Lahu Facebook page.
Lo-Ue coordinates the internship program, which focuses on organic coffee, tea, and fruit production, while supporting our highland community and habitat.
Your farm accommodation is free. The only cash contribution we request is 150 Baht a day for 3 vegetarian meals. We also request a Volunteer to stay at least 2 weeks, because some jobs take time to learn and the Farm manager needs to be available to train the Volunteer. If one wishes to stay short period, please message us directly and we can decide at the time of the volunteer period if it’s convenient or not. Hope you can understand.
Also we suggest that you have a valid visa and a Thai SIM card with internet data and for local communication.
As a Suan Lahu intern, you will join the team in caring for the soil, plants, animals, and visitors according to their indigenous culture. Be amazed like Californian intern, Emily, who witnessed a merit making ceremony at Suan Lahu: “It had me think what it means to give blessings to bees having made their hive on farm.”
Our interns generally learn with us for six hours a day, during which they join in a range of daily activities and tasks following the seasonal calendar.
While staying at the farm, you will learn from and support the team in:
feeding our friendly farm animals
mulching, weeding, grafting fruit crops
grading, roasting, packaging coffee
recycling and composting natural resources
preparing and applying organic fertilizer
feeding our Pyrolyzer with bamboo and other natural material for Biochar production
coffee picking during October to February (harvest season)
Occasionally, we also required office-based internships. This is mostly for people wishing to assist us in getting Suan Lahu organic coffee out into the world.
